Wild life drawing
Joanne T Kell
Joanne
brought enough pencils and paper and examples to work from for all of
us. Some members had not pick up a pencil to draw since school
days!! Joanne stresses the need to observe and pointed out
triangles in a dogs eyes that gave the photograph and the drawing extra
life, I have always drawn, but never succeeded with
working from photographs. The liberties that are needed to get a
life like drawing, rather than an exact copy of the photograph were a
revelation. Whilst the methods of drawing do not have a direct
relevance to carving, anything that improves our seeing / observation
abilities is definitely beneficial. There is one great
similarity between Joanne's work and a carvers - the time it takes.
Joanne typically spend 30 hours on a drawing!! See
