Roy Richardson - Heraldry
The talk and demonstration
by Roy Richardson was booked as Heraldry but covered much more.
He carves simplified birds, based on an intimate knowledge
of their forms in flight etc obtained by observation and sketching
them. He fits their shapes into pieces of wood so that
the beauty of the grain will be shown to its best advantage.
Like most practicing carvers he can turn his hand to almost anything
that will earn a crust, so he had carved heraldic shields when asked,
race hoses, groups of people and sheep.
He was fascinating to listen too and all members enjoyed the occasion, and Roy Richardson lived up to his initials RR
