We thoroughly enjoyed a varied presentation, by O.H.Boyd, covering a selection of his work, including line drawings, portraits, and carvings.  Starting with a slide show giving a brief review of his projects, and their background history, he then went on to show us his current carving, a portrait of The 14th Astronomer Royal, Sir Arnold Wolfendale FRS, still to be completed.  It was interesting to have some insight into the techniques used for carving realistic hair, and how the eyes were tackled, through spectacles!  In the final part, Howard talked about the need for creativity in all our approaches, and how important it is to work from the heart, as well as the head.
