Club Visit to
DUNHAM MASSEY

Members, Suzanne, Gillian, Florence and Margaret, standing in front of the 500 year old tree trunk at Dunham Massey Hall, Altrincham, Cheshire.

Dunham Massey is a Georgian mansion filled with many collections including 18th century walnut furniture.    We saw an early woodcarving scene  by Grinley Gibbons. The scene of The Crucifixion  was over the fireplace in the library.

On our tour of the grounds and garden we saw a rare Victorian Bark House attached to the Well House. The back wall and domed ceiling were lined with large bark tiles. The bench and decorative fascia were made of logs.

The Tudor Mill was refitted as a Sawmill in 1860. We visited the giant waterwheel which has now been restored to full working order.

A very interesting and enjoyable day out in the house and gardens was topped off with a wonderful close up sight  of a herd of deer resting on the lawns and wild rabbits by the fountains.
