Scandinavian Style carving by
Nick Pantelides
Nick
Pantelides gave a talk about knife-carving in the Scandinavian style. He started by defining the
ideal
specification for a good knife, then went on to show us how to make
such a
knife, starting from a piece of industrial hacksaw blade, an old
cut-throat
razor, or even an old leather knife.
He
then showed us examples of this folk-carving, and told us some of the
history
of this traditional craft.
Unfortunately, time ran out, and he was unable
to demonstrate the
technique. It was
suggested, in view of
the likelihood that we shall start carving more at our meetings, that
he might
tutor a carving session based on this subject
