Lancashire and Cheshire Woodcarvers

Carvings by John Hartley

I got started when I saw an advert in a local paper for evening classes run by David Tippey, a professional Wood carver who also wrote for the Wood Carving Magazine.
I enjoy most types of carving; in the round and relief, with a tooled or sanded finish, painted - gloss or mat.   I have tried them all.
I love  the challenge of creating planning and carving something different, but I prefer wildlife, scenes in relief, small intricate precise carvings.
I have found most satisfaction from the carvings made for friends and family which are personal to them.
